In order to be coherent through the app, I have changed a couple of sentences from formal to informal German.

Voice instructions should remain formal though, what do you think?

I can add a 'Regenerated' commit when somebody has reviewed my changes.

What motivated you to introduce this change? In ru/be/uk for example, a "Sie" form is used instead of "du".

I don’t like this change at all. It is impolite when people or companies start using “du” instead of “Sie” without asking.

Mainly because it's not consistent right now. The website, the info screen and some strings are informal, while others are not. And I remember that at some point (I think it was while translating the website, although I couldn't find the comment) you said we should use informal because it's more suitable for a community. Which I agree.

@telluroid Yes, but it's a community, not a company, so I wouldn't call it impolite here. I'm personally fine with both, but we should make it consistent imo.

Real people trying to avoid being disrespectful while actually talking to each other is understandable but software can neither be polite nor impolite.

For software it would probably make more sense to use a neutral form but that doesn't exist - except when rephrasing to avoid addressing the user directly as "Sie" or "Du".

Android (and Windows too?) moved to the more personal, or "friendly" form of using "Du".
Maybe just to sound young and hip, though.

I generally dislike "formal" speech that derives from pluralis majestatis (royal "we") because what should matter is context.

I'm relatively sure that avoiding "Sie" in a sentence usually saves some letters.

• Avoiding explicit Sie while keeping it polite looks like an option (if it is possible)
• Using the same form everywhere consistently is important, 100% agree. Likely, it would be better to use a polite, more formal form, as our audience is everyone, not just young hipsters.
• @j13m126 you're right, I've commented somewhere about using a more friendly style in all translations, by making them simpler, shorter, and less official, while being as precise and succinct as possible, it was outside of changing everything to du from Sie context though...

Having an experiment on a wide audience would be great. Personally, in Cyrillic languages, I don't like "du" forms, especially for some new software that I run for the first time. I'm sure that many of our regular users may enjoy the informal "du". I'm worried about those new users who run OM for the first time and have not yet become our regular users.
