Atmos is not Lossless, and that's not a problem at all.In addition to optimizing file size, Atmos is basically sound based on objects, not channels. The level of information within an Atmos file is MUCH greater than a non-atmos file, such as flac or any other lossless format. Also, above 500kbps it's impossible for a normal human being to distinguish anything, that's already HiFi, more HiFi than that is just to say it's "more HiFi than that"... completely overrated. Think of flac as a 100mp camera on a Xiaomi phone and Dolby Atmos as a 12mp camera on a Sony DSLR. Does having more megapixels make the Xiaomi camera better or even sharper? short answer: no. So don't worry about it, Atmos files are as HiFi as anything over 400kbps, and if I'm not mistaken Atmos goes just over 700kbps. there's also the fact that a lot of scientific research shows that differentiating a 320kbps mp3 from a higher quality flac file is difficult or impossible even for the most trained people. |

So I got tidal-dl to work downloading Atmos files, but the quality is showing LOW... is that because Tidal's "Atmos" tracks are just encoded lossy to send certain audio frequencies to surround channels? What about albums that were remastered for surround sound (like the Beatles 50th anniversary super deluxe editions)... would those possibly have LOSSLESS Atmos?
