Override the organisation setting for merge PR

Hi Team,
I want to merge a PR via CLI but don't want to delete it, but as per the organisation policies, the merged branch will be deleted. How can I override the organisation settings and prevent the merged PR deletion?

I don't think this is possible. That option lives in the general Pull Request settings for a repo:

I don't think there is any API that allows bypassing this, have you seen one? If there is an API then we could support that.

Exactly my concern, my organisation policies have this check enabled to automatically delete head branches, but for certain cases I want to bypass this flag and just merge the PR and not delete it. If a flag could be there which can do that, will be helpful

I don't think there is any way to do this in the GitHub API, so I don't think there is any way for us to support that in the CLI. I'll check internally to see if anyone has any suggestions.

The only internal suggestion is that you might be able to use a Branch Protection Rule on the branch you don't want deleted to avoid this. I'm not exactly sure how this would work, but seems to be the only avenue for exploration.

Actually my use case was not that restricted for a particular branch, but yes thanks for the clarification
